The Perfect Life
Everyone wishes for all things to go right in their lives. Everyone is struggling to achieve this thing called perfection, but what is it?
Lonely bird in a cage
Feeling she’s the only one
Who can’t fly in the sky
‘I am feeling so betrayed
Of my own kind
How could they leave me alone in my needy time?
I am feeling so enraged
Thinking of their joy
I am so envious, dreaming of sharing the same smile
But the day I get free
I get to know the truth
That all was superficial
There was no paradise’
But she refuses to hold the truth
So, she asks
“Is there anyone who doesn’t wanna go back?
Doesn’t want to change the past?
Doesn’t wanna make amends?
Is there anyone who hasn’t lost a thing?
Hasn’t felt there’s something missing?
Hasn’t lied that it’s nothing?”
Everyone’s hiding behind a veil
A heart with walls so high, impenetrable
Afraid to get hurt
But pain seeps through
The darkness gets the best of it
Among the fight of stars
The world that seemed happy
Suddenly falls apart
The bird thinks to herself
‘Is there anyone who hasn’t been low?
Hasn’t done something wrong?
Doesn’t feel lost?
Is there anyone who hasn’t been sad?
Got everything they wished for?
Doesn’t have a skeleton in their closet?’
Turns out that I am alone even when I am surrounded
There’s silence in the noise and noise in the silence
The silence is deafening
We are all different yet the same
With our own unique set of problems
And individual choices to make
Turns out we all lose something the moment we choose
And we all have regrets hoping to undo the past
We all hope to have our errors under the bridge
And we all are looking for light, fighting our own darkness
The bird spoke in my ear
“We are same yet different
You wish to fly; I am looking for my resting nest
You have a home, I have nowhere to go.”
I softly tell her
“My home is right here with the ones I love
Storm or adversity can only bring us together
Yeah, I agree I have been through ups and downs
But it was all worth it, in this journey called life
It’s true you won’t find a being who doesn’t have an imperfect life
But the time we have is short so all we can do is live the present
Whether it’s good or bad, it is meaningful
So, thank our Creator for our existence.”
The bird thought I told her a ruse
She kept on with her search for the truth
It was just the moment before her depart
She understood the words that I preached
But before she could enjoy her gift
She closed her eyes, soul vading into the galaxy
Waiting for her next life to implement this newly found blessing.
I didn’t know I was the lonely bird
Till I woke up the next day
Lying in my bed, staring outside the window
I knew I have been resurrected
